Panaji: In a heartwarming display of gratitude and love, the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman organized a special Christmas Outreach Programme for its dedicated church employees. The event, held on 30th December at 10:30 am at the St. Joseph Vaz Retreat Centre, Old Goa, was a gesture of appreciation for the tireless service of those who often work behind the scenes in the church community.

The outreach event brought together a diverse group of employees, including church office assistants, sacristans, cooks, grave diggers, and gardeners—individuals whose efforts play an essential role in the daily operations of churches across Goa. Many of these workers, who quietly serve without seeking attention, were honored for their unwavering service throughout the year.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao, who warmly addressed the gathering, and Auxiliary Bishop Simão Fernandes, who also joined the celebrations and delivered the vote of thanks. Both bishops expressed their deep appreciation for the employees’ dedication and reminded everyone of the true spirit of Christmas—selflessness, compassion, and service to others.

Cardinal Ferrao highlighted that work glorifies God, enhances the beauty of creation, and can sanctify individuals, contributing to the good of the Church and society. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the employees, emphasizing that through their hard work and service, they significantly support the Church and its community. Cardinal Ferrao also stressed the dignity of all types of work and reminded the employees that the Church respects them and the roles they perform.

The event also provided an opportunity for church leaders to encourage employees, many of whom come from humble backgrounds, to continue their service with dignity and honor. Auxiliary Bishop Simão Fernandes expressed gratitude to God for the day and appreciated the Archbishop for initiating this Outreach Programme four years ago. He acknowledged the church employees for their significant role in the Church and highlighted the gratitude of the faithful for their service.

The programme began with a prayer service, thanking God for His blessings and offering all human labor to Him. Following the welcome address by the Archbishop, participants enjoyed fellowship games and a festive meal. Gifts and tokens of appreciation were distributed to the employees. The Archbishop and Auxiliary Bishop also personally thanked each worker, recognizing their individual contributions and the significant impact of their service on the lives of the faithful.

The gathering was marked by a strong sense of gratitude and belonging, with some employees sharing personal stories and experiences. This Christmas Outreach Programme is part of the Archdiocese’s ongoing efforts to recognize the contributions of various individuals to the Church and to foster a deeper sense of connection and belonging among all members of the archdiocese.

As the celebration concluded, the employees left with grateful hearts, knowing their hard work had not gone unnoticed and that their service was deeply appreciated by the leaders and faithful of the Archdiocese of Goa.

The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman organizes such outreach programmes in its parishes and institutions, especially during Christmas. The Archbishop and other church authorities make it a point to organize and participate in these meaningful initiatives.
