Panaji: Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar on Friday said that new Leader of Opposition in the House could not be appointed due to ‘technical issues.’
“There are some technical issues which they (Congress) has discussed with me. That is the reason why new Leader of Opposition could not be appointed,” the Speaker told mediapersons outside the Assembly complex, without elaborating on the ‘technical issues.’
Congress Legislature Party had resolved to remove their MLA Michael Lobo from the post of Leader of Opposition this week after the reported rebellion within the party fold.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar had given a letter to the Speaker informing him about sacking of Lobo from the post. The Congress Legislature Party is yet to announce its new leader.
When contacted, Deputy Leader of Opposition Sankalp Amonkar said that it is for the High Command to decide on the new Leader of Opposition on the floor of the House. He said that the decision on the new face would be taken shortly.
