Cuncolim: An ancestral house at Cuncolim where India’s one of the prominent historian and Goa’s own pride late Prof George Moraes of St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, once lived collapsed on Friday. The structure which carried historic legacy was abandoned with no one living in it.
The locals claimed that during the early morning of Friday, due to incessant rains that is lashing the state, the house belonging to Prof George Morae’s family, at Ward No 7 of Bencleamvaddo, collapsed.
The locals claimed that the structure was in dilapidated condition as it was crumbling in phases since last two years.
Interestingly, local municipal council, instead of declaring the structure as unsafe, was busy proposing it for the acquisition to set up Children’s Park in memory of Late Prof.George Moraes in whose memory a library is already constructed by residents of Bencleamvaddo with the support of local authority metres away from his now fallen house.
