Panaji : President of Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD), Dr Pratik Savant spoke about the plight of the doctors and nurses who work day and night to save the lives of COVID19 patients. He also spoke about new developments in healthcare sector.
Speaking about the supply of Oxygen he said “There was a delay in transit and supply, but a lot of situations are improved due to High Court intervention. Demand for oxygen is increasing, and there are many deaths due to lack of it. We are trying to find out the bottlenecks , we have set up a special committee which is looking into these issues.
Dr Savant also informed that 100-110 news doctors will be added which will definitely help them. “Other than this we also need to step up the staff. We have to look at a long term solution.” Said Dr Savant
“Our healthcare is being improved but we cannot say that we are at a level that we can comfortably provide adequate resources to admit the patients.” lamented Dr Savant
He went on to say that “The situation looks grim if we look at the number of cases but on the other hand the curfew has been extended till 31st and if everyone takes upon himself the responsibility to contain this virus then I believe we can reduce the rising number of cases”.
“As doctors we are continuously trying to empathise with the patients, we are trained to deal with the situation, when a patient suffers the relatives tend to blame the doctor and the situation gets tensed hence we had asked the Dean and Government to provide us police protection so that the situation does not flare up and affect the hospital. We are thankful to the authorities who have complied with our request.”
“Once the cases reduce and the positivity rate comes down, the resources will be enough for us to sustain and we can use them effectively. Moreover, if that happens we will have a break for ourselves to plan and think about a long term remedy to face the Pandemic in the future.” concluded Dr Savant
