Margao: The Congress in Goa is facing a rift with senior MLA accusing state level president Girish Chodankar of giving “weak leadership” to the party.

Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, addressing mediapersons in South Goa on Wednesday, said that Chodankar was taking party into wrong directions. The MLA also said that Chodankar was facing some serious allegations for which he has not given the justification.

“I have my doubt on the party leadership. It is taking the party in wrong direction. There are serous allegations on the current Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President (Chodankar) and he has failed to give appropriate answers to it,” Lourenco said.

The MLA, without going into details of his allegations, said that he has preferred to keep away from the ‘tainted leaders.’

Lourenco, representing Curtorim Assembly Constituency, said that the party is currently having “weak leadership.”

When contacted, Chodankar said that he is yet to go through the statement made by Lourenco. “I have not seen what he has said but it is not new for Lourenco attack GPCC Presidents,” he said.

“In the past too, he has been attacking all the GPCC Presidents. I will focus on my work of exposing the state government, that nobody can stop me,” he added.
