Ponda: Chief Electoral Office of Goa has sought explanation from its senior officer for allegedly participating in the function, which was sponsored by a political party.

Goa Chief Electoral Officer Kunal said that he has called for an explanation from Additional Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti.

The photographs of Navti participating in a function organised by ruling party – Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party – in association with the local cultural club had surfaced on the social media.

Navti is seen distributing prize during the cultural function, in the undated pictures, held in Ponda town in South Goa.

“We have called for the explanation and I will look into the fact,” Kunal said without elaborating further.

When contacted, Navti said that he was unaware that the function had a banner of a political party, but had participated in it since it is a cultural event.

“The organizers were my neighbours. I was not invited by political party, but by a local club Shrikrishna Cultural Club. I went there as a chief guest,” he said.

“I never violate laws. I did not see the banner and sat on the stage directly,” Navti said adding “I went with good intention that it is a cultural event.”

“There were no elected representatives on the stage,” the Additional CEO said.

“I am retiring after four months. I don’t think that I will be even participating in the next elections,” he added.
