Panaji: Terming the three day lockdown announced by government as possibly the world’s first “weekend lockdown”, AAP’s Goa unit has demanded to withdraw it calling it “illogical” and “unscientific”.

Valmiki Naik, spokesperson of AAP, reminded the Chief Minister that the Corona virus has a cycle of at least 10 to14 days. “Lockdown for three days would not make any impact on the spread of the virus.” He said.

“CM continuously blames the people for the rise of corona cases. He should know that it was the discipline of Goans that helped bring coronavirus cases to zero, earlier. Actually the unplanned steps by the government have led to the worsening situation today.” Naik lamented.

Naik suggested that, keeping ego and politics aside, the government should come up with a coherent plan for fighting Covid-19. “Major decisions such as lockdowns should be taken only after consulting experts.” He said.

“CM should discuss and learn from other states like Delhi, which has established best practices, and also work on his communication and transparency with public.” He said.

Naik demanded that the lockdown should be immediately withdrawn, and if found necessary after proper analysis, 10 to 14 days lockdown could be implemented, giving people at least one week for arrangements.

Pradeep Padgaonkar, AAP State secretary, alleged that the hurried decision was taken ahead of the CM’s review meeting with the Governor, only to show latter that government was taking some measures to contain the spread of corona virus.
