Delhi: Former Delhi CM & AAP Goa Incharge Atishi said, “Today, our meeting with the Election Commission was regarding the SIR process taking place in Goa. The SIR process has begun in Goa, and the draft roll will be released on December 9. But what concerns us greatly is that during this time, Zilla panchayat elections are also happening in Goa. The district panchayat election is on December 13, and its reservation announcement was made today. In two or three days, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect. Naturally, when elections are underway, the entire machinery of all political parties becomes involved in the election process and campaign. No political party will have the time to monitor or oversee the SIR process… Therefore, it is a matter of concern as to why both these processes, the Special Intensive Revision and the district panchayat elections, are being conducted simultaneously in Goa.”
While pointing at lapse in the SIR guidelines Atishi said ” the SIR process offers no remedy for those whose names are missing from the draft rolls. The SIR guidelines only provide procedures for objections against wrongful inclusion in the draft rolls. “
