Panaji: AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva on Thursday clarified that they voted for Congress candidate Altone D’Costa in the Goa Assembly Speaker’s election only under protest.

D’Costa, backed by the opposition, lost to BJP’s Ganesh Gaonkar, who secured 32 votes against his seven.

Speaking to reporters, Silva stressed that AAP has no association with Congress. “We are not on the same page with the Congress party. We have different ideologies and will never share a platform with them. Congress backstabbed us during the Delhi elections,” he said.

Silva explained that their support for D’Costa was merely symbolic as he contested against the BJP candidate. He also accused Congress of working against AAP in Delhi despite AAP’s support for Congress’ INDIA Alliance candidate during the Lok Sabha elections in Goa.

Echoing the sentiment, Viegas added, “For any political party, sincerity and accountability are what matter. Congress lacks both qualities.”
