Fatorda: An eight day Agriculture Summer Camp organized by We for Fatorda, a charitable foundation associated with Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai at Dovandem, Fatorda in association with the Department of Agriculture will start on April 24.
The camp which is for students from age of 6 to 16 years will cater to 100 students disclosed Managing Trustee of We for Fatorda Usha Sardesai. She elaborated that various resource persons from the Agriculture Department will provide orientation to the students about Goan agriculture, identification of crops, sowing of leafy vegetables, kitchen and home gardening, nutrient and waste management, mushroom cultivation and identification of useful and destructive insects.
She said there would also be 2 field visits on 2 separate days at Salvador Farm and Pascoal Farm. Students would be given training in plant propagation like grafting as well as in composting, vermicomposting and drip irrigation.
On 1st May the course would culminate with participants sharing experiences as well as distribution of certificates. Usha also disclosed plans to follow this camp with a demonstration plot for continuous orientation of young kids to agriculture which she said was historically known as an honorable profession which rooted the individual to Mother Earth as well be the medium to provide safe and healthy food to the population.
