Fatorda: The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) has selected 30 students for grooming and support to achieve excellence in higher education under the scheme named after former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar.
The selected 30 were were picked up from a pool of 109 students who had applied for the ‘Manohar Parrikar Goa Scholar Scheme’ instituted by the State government for the academic year 2019-20.
The scheme is aimed at first identifying and then mentoring and encouraging outstanding students from the State in their pursuit of post-graduate academic excellence or research fields to earn doctoral degrees.
Under the scheme, selected scholars will also be guided to choose and eventually get into reputed universities and institutions of higher education to pursue their higher study goals.
These 30 selected students will either get Rs 8 lakh for pursuing their goals in any institution in India or US $ 25,000 in institutions abroad.
The short-listing of the 30 scholars was done by a screening committee on the basis of an objective pre-set criteria and on a 100-point scale which counts their performance at the SSCE (40 per cent weightage) and 30 per cent weightage at the HSSCE and graduate level.
