Panaji : Goa has received reports of the 23 samples that were sent for genome sequencing at the Pune-based National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS).
The Directorate of Health services has been routinely sending samples for genome sequencing in the past few months to laboratories situated out of state as the facilities are not available locally.
According to health department, out of these 23 reports, 19 samples have shown mutations and all 19 samples have tested positive for the highly contagious Delta variant, also known as B.1.617.2 COVID-19 variant.
The Delta variant of COVID19 has been called a variant of concern by WHO because of its high transmissibility.
According to UNICEF the delta variant is twice as more contagious than previous variants.
