Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that all the deaths due to COVID-19 reported in the state were accounted for by the Health authorities.
Sawant was responding to a criticism by opposition parties, who had sought investigation into the 64 unreported deaths in various private hospitals. The Health Bulletin, this week, had added these unreported deaths to the tally threatening action against the private hospitals, who had failed to report them to the authorities.
“Even those deaths which occurred during the Home Isolation period have been registered and brought on record by Health department,” Sawant told reporters.
He said that even if someone was “brought in dead” in the hospitals, the COVID19 tests were conducted on the body. “The throat sample of the body was taken to ascertain whether it was COVID-19 related death,” the Chief Minister said.
“That is why, I say that, ours is one of the states which has recorded all the covid deaths,” he commented.
Congress party and Aam Admi Party (AAP) had demanded resignation of State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane over unreported COVID-19 deaths.
Sawant said that the show cause notice has been issued to the private hospitals, which have failed to submit the data of COVID-19 deaths. “These private hospitals have been issued notice under Health Act. They are at fault because they did not inform about the deaths to the government,” he said.
