Panaji: Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijai Sardesai today said that Utpal Parrikar is a rightful heir to carry forward his father former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar’s legacy in Panaji assembly constituency.
Utpal is being rumoured to be BJP’s candidate for upcoming Panaji by-election scheduled on May 19.
“I am of the opinion that Parrikar legacy has to be kept alive but by whom is the question,” Saresai told reporters responding to a question on whether he support Utpal candidature for Panaji by-election.
“First is whether Utpal is interested …if he is interested then certainly he becomes the rightful heir to his legacy of Parrikar being his son,” deputy chief minister added.
However, Sardesai said that the final decision has to be taken by Parrikar’s family and the BJP party.
Earlier in the day, Utpal had said that he has been asked by the party to campaign for their candidate in the North Goa lok sabha seat.
“Basically, the party has said that I should be campaigning for Lok Sabha elections in support of party candidate Shripad Naik,” he said.
