Panaji: The Swimmers from Panaji who are preparing for upcoming State Championship are in a rude shock as Sports Authority of Goa has shut down Campal swimming pool to upgrade it.
The closure of swimming pool is happening a month before the Swimmers who will be competing for State Championship at Paddem, Mapusa were planning to undertaken rigorous practice.
The championship is planned at May 25,26 and 27.
Sports Minister Manohar alias Babu Ajgaonkar’s inability to handle the department seems to have upset several parents, who are raising questions over efficiency of the Deputy Chief Minister.
The SAG officials have planned the closure affecting more than 80 swimmers who are enrolled in RCC (Regular Coaching Classes). Rest of the swimming pools in the city have refused to allow the players as they are full due to current summer season.
The pool of the hotels, or one at Military facility at Campal of Panaji Gymkhana is full with their members, leaving no opportunity for the swimmers to practice.
The worst affected are the Swimmers from Panaji who has to either travel to Mapusa or Margao to practice as the pool is closed at a crucial time.
Few parents told www.goanewshub.com that the officials of Sports department were rude and refused to entertain the parents, who had requested them to close down the pool after State Championship is over.
While State government boasts of promoting the talents, Sports minister seems to be unfit for the job.
