NGT issues notices to Goa authorities over road in Mapusa River

New Delhi: National Green Tribunal at New Delhi has taken cognizance of unmindful filling of Mapusa River at Tar asking the authorities to file their say within a month.

The Tribunal has issued notices to Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority, Water Resources department, and  Goa State Pollution Control Board
NGT bench comprising of Justices Adarsh Kumar Goel, Sonam Wangdi, Ramakrishnan and expert member Nangin Nanda issued the order following complaint by social activist Kashinath Shetye.
Shetye had brought to the notice of the bench  newspaper report to take the suo motto cognizance.
The bench has given time of seven days to Shetye to file his formal complaint accompanied by required documents.
The state government authorities including GCZMA, WRD and GSPCB has been asked to furnish their reply within a month.
Times of India Newspaper on February 17 had carried a news highlighting construction of a mud road in the middle of the Mapusa River at Tar.
The mud dumping activity in the river, flowing east of the small bridge linking Bastora to the town, had commenced few days ago.
Witin a month report to be Kashinath Shetye to file complaint within a week.
