Panaji: Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Friday said that the it is for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to bring about solution for the crisis on Iron Ore mining industry in the State.

GFP is an alliance partner of BJP in the State government.

GFP Vice President Durgadas Kamat, addressing a press conference in presence of party’s secretary Santoshkumar Sawant, said that only BJP can provide solution for the current crisis on mining industry in the State.

He also said that GFP President Vijai Sardesai has been lobbying with Prime Minister’s Office through Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu to resume the mining activity in the State.

The mining industry in Goa has come to a standstill since March last year after Supreme Court quashed 88 Iron Ore extraction leases. The people dependent on mining industry have been insisting for change in existing law in the Parliament to ensure that the leases get new life.

“Our party president Vijai Sardesai had said in the past and repeated it again and again that passing an Ordinance can provide solution for this problem. Now the ball is in their (BJP) court,” Kamat said.

When asked whether GFP would withdraw from the government if mining issue is not solved, Kamat said that the issue would not be solved after taking such  a drastic step.
