BJP discusses CM’s health, but not leadership change

Panaji: Bharatiya Janata Party’s Goa MLAs and Core Committee members met in Panaji on Saturday to discuss the political situation arising out of health condition of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Parrikar’s health condition deteriorated during the day sparking political activities in the State. Coalition partners including Goa Forward Party and Independents met Parrikar and assured him their support.

The meeting of BJP which was held in Panaji discussed the political situation, but refused to discuss about the leadership change, a senior party functionary said.

State Panchayat Minister and BJP MLA Mauvin Godinho said that the meeting was held to discuss upcoming elections but it also discussed “other challenges in the State.”

He stated that the health of the chief minister was also discussed in the meeting which was chaired by State unit president Vinay Tendulkar.

Speaker of Legislative Assembly and another BJP MLA Pramod Sawant said that the party is aware that “Chief Minister’s condition is not well.”

“We know that his (CMs) condition is not well. Our party leaders had met him (during the day). We did not meet him, but concerns were raised about his health,” Sawant said.

State Power Minister and BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral said that there was no discussion about leadership change in the meeting.

“Chief minister is there. He is strong. There is no reason to discuss leadership change,” he said.
